ACCENTIFY EXAMINATION TERMS & CANDIDATE RULES
Last updated: 4 September 2026
These Accentify Examination Terms & Candidate Rules ("Examination Terms") apply when you book or take an Accentify accent examination ("Examination").
These Examination Terms supplement the Accentify Terms of Service. By booking an Examination, or taking an Examination booked on your behalf, you agree to these Examination Terms together with the Accentify Terms of Service.
If these Examination Terms conflict with the Accentify Terms of Service specifically in relation to an Examination, these Examination Terms will take priority.
Our Privacy Policy explains how Accentify processes personal information and should be read alongside these Examination Terms.
1. ABOUT ACCENTIFY EXAMINATIONS
Accentify Examinations assess a candidate's ability to understand, apply and maintain a particular accent in prepared and spontaneous speech.
Examinations are conducted by an Accentify-approved examiner and will normally last approximately 30–45 minutes.
The current Examination generally includes:
a prepared piece followed by live redirection;
a controlled accent test;
an improvised conversation; and
a sight-reading test using previously unseen material.
The exact preparation requirements and Candidate Guide applicable to your Examination will be provided before the Examination takes place.
Accentify may make reasonable adjustments to the format where necessary for a particular accent or candidate, provided that the Examination continues to assess substantially the same relevant skills.
2. BOOKING, PRICE AND PAYMENT
The price of an Examination will be shown or communicated before you purchase it.
Prices may change for future purchases. A later price change will not affect an Examination that has already been purchased at an agreed price.
After payment, Accentify will contact you to arrange a mutually suitable date and time for the Examination. Scheduling may be arranged directly with you by email, WhatsApp or another agreed communication method.
If someone purchases an Examination on behalf of another person, they must be authorised to do so and should ensure that the candidate receives the relevant Examination information and rules.
Meeting any eligibility or preparation requirements does not guarantee a particular grade or result.
3. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Unless Accentify agrees otherwise, you must have:
a working camera;
a working microphone;
a sufficiently stable internet connection;
a device capable of accessing the video-conferencing platform used for the Examination;
your required prepared material;
a quiet and suitable environment; and
enough uninterrupted time to complete the Examination.
You should test your equipment and connection before the Examination.
Your camera and microphone must normally remain switched on throughout the Examination.
The examiner may carry out reasonable checks before or during the Examination to make sure that the conditions are suitable for a fair assessment.
Candidates under 18 may be subject to reasonable safeguarding arrangements. Where applicable, Accentify will explain these arrangements before the Examination.
4. EXAMINATION CONDITIONS
You must complete the Examination independently and follow the examiner's reasonable instructions.
Unless Accentify expressly permits it, you must not:
receive assistance from another person during assessed sections;
use AI tools or automated systems to provide live assistance;
use hidden notes, prompts or scripts during spontaneous or unseen sections;
obtain secure Examination questions or materials in advance;
have another person take the Examination for you;
communicate with another person in a way that could affect your performance;
interfere with the Examination or its technical systems; or
otherwise act dishonestly in a way that compromises the assessment.
The prepared-piece section is intended to involve prepared material, and you may use that material in accordance with the instructions given for that section.
Other people should not normally be present or assisting during the Examination unless Accentify has agreed this in advance, for example for safeguarding or accessibility reasons.
5. TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
Technical problems can occur during remote Examinations.
If a temporary problem occurs, the examiner may pause the Examination and allow reasonable time for it to be resolved.
If a technical problem materially prevents the examiner from assessing you fairly, Accentify may:
restart an affected section;
continue once the problem has been resolved;
stop or invalidate the affected attempt; or
arrange for some or all of the Examination to be taken again.
You will not receive a Fail solely because of an internet, equipment or platform failure where your accent performance could not be fairly assessed.
If the Examination cannot reasonably be completed because of a problem for which Accentify is responsible, we will normally offer a replacement Examination or another suitable opportunity to complete the assessment without an additional Examination fee.
If the Examination cannot be completed because the candidate did not meet the stated technical or environmental requirements, Accentify will act reasonably in deciding whether the Examination can be rearranged and whether a further fee is appropriate.
6. CANCELLATION, RESCHEDULING AND NON-ATTENDANCE
If you need to cancel or reschedule an Examination, contact Accentify as soon as reasonably possible.
Any specific cancellation deadline, free-rescheduling period or other booking condition applying to your Examination will be shown or communicated before booking.
Where possible, Accentify may offer rescheduling instead of cancellation.
Where a late cancellation or failure to attend causes Accentify a genuine loss, including committed examiner time that cannot reasonably be reassigned, Accentify may retain or charge a reasonable amount to reflect that loss where permitted by law.
We will not impose a cancellation charge that is disproportionate to Accentify's reasonable loss.
If you arrive late, the examiner will make reasonable efforts to proceed where the Examination can still be completed fairly. If there is not enough remaining time to conduct a fair Examination, the booking may need to be rearranged.
If Accentify needs to cancel or materially rearrange an Examination because of examiner unavailability, technical problems or another issue on our side, we will offer a suitable alternative. If we cannot provide a reasonable alternative, you may request a refund.
7. STATUTORY CANCELLATION RIGHTS
If you book an Examination online or at a distance, applicable consumer law may give you a statutory cancellation period.
For UK consumers, this will generally include a 14-day cancellation period for a service contract entered into at a distance.
If you ask Accentify to provide your Examination during that 14-day period, we may ask you to expressly request that the service begins before the cancellation period ends.
Where required by law, we will also ask you to acknowledge that once the Examination service has been fully provided, you may lose your statutory right to cancel.
If you validly cancel after the service has begun but before it has been fully provided, Accentify may be entitled to charge a proportionate amount for services already provided where applicable law allows this.
Nothing in these Examination Terms limits any statutory cancellation, refund or other consumer right that applies to you.
8. ILLNESS AND UNEXPECTED CIRCUMSTANCES
If illness, bereavement, an emergency or another serious unexpected circumstance prevents you from attending or completing the Examination fairly, contact Accentify as soon as reasonably possible.
We will consider the circumstances reasonably and may, depending on the situation:
rearrange the Examination;
allow an affected section to be retaken;
waive or reduce a rebooking fee; or
take another appropriate step.
Unexpected circumstances will not normally result in a higher grade being awarded where the required accent performance was not demonstrated.
9. ACCESSIBILITY AND ADJUSTMENTS
If you need an adjustment or accessibility support to take the Examination fairly, contact Accentify as early as reasonably possible before the Examination and tell us what adjustment you need.
We do not normally need details of a diagnosis or your medical history.
Accentify will consider reasonable adjustments in accordance with applicable law.
An adjustment may change the way the Examination is delivered, but should not remove or materially lower the accent skill or ability that the Examination is designed to assess.
10. ASSESSMENT, GRADES AND RESULTS
Accentify Examinations are assessed by an Accentify-approved examiner using Accentify's assessment criteria and their professional judgement.
Accent assessment necessarily involves expert judgement. Accents may include legitimate variation between speakers, and individual features may need to be assessed in context.
Accentify currently awards the following Examination outcomes:
Fail
Pass
Merit
Distinction
The applicable grading criteria will be explained in Accentify's Examination information or Candidate Guide.
The examiner may provide a brief comment at the end of the Examination, but any informal comment given during or immediately after the Examination is not the final result unless Accentify expressly confirms otherwise.
Detailed feedback, results and any certificate will normally be provided separately following review of the Examination.
Accentify may review or moderate an examiner's assessment before confirming the final result.
Accentify may temporarily withhold a result where reasonably necessary to investigate a significant technical issue, administrative error, suspected misconduct or another issue capable of affecting the validity of the Examination.
11. RESULT REVIEWS AND COMPLAINTS
11.1 Result review
If you believe your result was materially affected by an assessment, administrative or procedural error, you may request a result review.
A request should normally be sent to whatsup@accentify.co.uk within 14 calendar days of receiving your result and should explain why you believe a review is appropriate.
A review may consider whether:
the assessment criteria were applied appropriately;
a material part of the performance was overlooked;
an administrative error occurred;
a significant technical problem affected the assessment; or
the Examination procedure was materially incorrect.
Where reasonably practicable, the review will involve a suitably qualified person other than the original examiner.
A result review considers the original Examination. It is not a new opportunity to demonstrate improved performance.
If a material error is identified, Accentify may correct the result, arrange a reassessment or provide another appropriate remedy.
The outcome of the review will normally be Accentify's final internal decision concerning the Examination result.
This does not remove any statutory or other legal rights you may have.
11.2 Complaints
If your concern is about the administration or conduct of the Examination rather than the grade itself, you may make a complaint to whatsup@accentify.co.uk.
This may include concerns about examiner conduct, communication, booking administration, accessibility or technical delivery.
12. MISCONDUCT AND EXAMINATION INTEGRITY
Accentify may investigate suspected Examination misconduct.
Misconduct may include:
receiving prohibited assistance;
using AI or another tool to obtain live assistance;
accessing secure Examination material in advance;
impersonation;
falsifying relevant information;
secretly recording or distributing secure Examination content;
attempting to improperly influence or intimidate an examiner; or
other dishonest conduct that could affect the validity of the Examination.
Where appropriate, Accentify will normally give you a reasonable opportunity to respond before making a final adverse decision.
If serious misconduct is established, Accentify may take proportionate action including:
invalidating an affected part of the Examination;
invalidating the Examination;
withholding or withdrawing a result;
withdrawing a certificate;
requiring a new Examination; or
restricting future Examination bookings in serious or repeated cases.
13. EXAMINATION MATERIALS AND RECORDING
Accentify owns or controls the rights in its secure Examination materials, including controlled test sentences, unseen sight-reading material, interview questions and examiner materials.
You must not, without Accentify's permission:
record the Examination;
photograph or screenshot secure Examination material;
copy or distribute secure assessment content;
publish secure Examination questions or unseen material;
sell or provide secure Examination material to another person; or
use secure Examination material to give another candidate an unfair advantage.
You may discuss your general experience, feedback and result provided that you do not disclose secure assessment material or misrepresent Accentify.
Accentify does not normally record Examinations. If a particular Examination is to be recorded by Accentify, you will be told in advance and any additional privacy information required will be provided before recording takes place.
14. RESITS AND CERTIFICATES
A candidate who receives a Fail, or who wishes to attempt to improve another result, may book another Examination subject to availability and any eligibility requirements.
A resit is a new assessment and may require payment of the Examination fee applicable at the time of booking.
A free resit is not automatically available merely because a candidate disagrees with their result.
Where Accentify determines that an Examination was invalid because of a problem for which Accentify was responsible, we may provide a replacement Examination without an additional fee.
Candidates who achieve an eligible passing result may receive an Accentify certificate or other confirmation of achievement.
An Accentify certificate represents Accentify's own assessment of the candidate's accent performance against Accentify's criteria at the time of the Examination.
Unless Accentify expressly states otherwise, an Accentify Examination or certificate is not:
an Ofqual-regulated qualification;
a government-regulated qualification;
a university accreditation;
an immigration qualification; or
an externally regulated professional certification.
A result or certificate does not guarantee employment, casting, professional advancement, admission to an institution or recognition by any third party.
Accentify may correct, replace or withdraw a certificate where it contains an administrative error, the underlying result is changed through a review, the Examination is found to have been invalid, or serious misconduct materially affected the result.
15. GENERAL
These Examination Terms supplement the Accentify Terms of Service.
The liability, consumer-rights, governing-law and other general provisions of the Accentify Terms of Service also apply to Examinations.
Accentify may update these Examination Terms for future bookings as the Examination system develops.
The version of these Examination Terms applying when your booking is confirmed will normally continue to apply to that Examination. We will not materially disadvantage an existing confirmed booking by retrospectively changing these terms.
Nothing in these Examination Terms limits rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
